Creator Rights Checklist Before You Download

This quick checklist helps creators stay on the right side of platform rules, copyright, and client expectations before saving any media for offline use.

Not legal advice. If ownership is unclear, pause and ask for permission.

Core checks

  • Ownership: Is this your original upload or your own raw footage?
  • Permission: If not yours, do you have written permission from the rights holder?
  • License terms: If the media is open-licensed, can you satisfy attribution and usage terms?
  • Platform rules: Does the site explicitly allow offline downloads for this file?
  • Restrictions: Are there commercial-use limits, territory limits, or expiry dates?

Risk flags

  • No clear owner listed.
  • The content is behind subscription or payment access.
  • You would need to bypass technical protections to save it.
  • The usage rights are verbal only and undocumented.

Keep a record

Save a simple rights note with source URL, permission basis, date, and credit requirements. This keeps your workflow defensible for clients, collaborators, and platforms.
